These days all managers (Pellegrini included) do in press conferences is spin. I don't take much notice of what they say because any connection with reality is invariably accidental.

And I also draw the line at assuming I know what players think or what their motivation might be. You will always be guessing on that score - and wildly.

Unless a player comes out and says "I played like this - because..." you have no evidence. And even then, many players are just as capable of spinning as their managers so I'd take a lot of it with a big pinch of salt.
