Title: moneyball comes to football
Post by: goat on March 18, 2015, 17:26:34
billy beane is now an advisor at az alkmaar

no clue how this can even work with football, baseball has more stats than tony can deal with  and is a lot less random than football. if the point of it is to help smaller teams close the gap with the richer teams theres not anything really stopping them using it too

Shit film but I like the cut of his jib...

Football should be more stat based. But not only star based!
For instance corners. You look at all the goals your oponent has conceded at corners. You see if there is any commonality, you train the team to put those corners in and to attack them. Bob's your uncle but life's never that easy!

Didn't FC Midtylland in Denmark use some sort of moneyball offshoot? Interesting to see how this pans out at AZ. They have an American technical director, expect him to have come up with this.
