Title: new permanent home
Post by: gavin on November 01, 2014, 14:02:23
I'm not sure whether this forum will be temporary or permanent at the moment. Please register and we will see what happens. I have not heard from the host since they unsuccessfully tried to move our sql server at 07:15 this morning despite sending them numerous messages since. I have not even been able to attempt our actual upgrade.

Update... Now going to be permanent. Hopefully we will get the old forum back up online at some stage when the host eventually replies to messages. I have noticed them trying to do things but still no word from them.

Welcome guys.  Still not heard anything at all from Dreamhost - this is a 24/7 hosting company! They sent me 6 or 7 emails yesterday. I tend to think we should stay here now unless there are major objections. I hope to get the old database back up and running for posterity at some stage though.

Crazy thing is we still have to downgrade back to the shared hosting at some stage this week. That is away from this Virtual Private Server setup that was going to make the upgrade process so much easier according to dreamhost. An upgrade process that was never even started. I was going to take a database backup before the upgrade. I would imagine that the old database is still in one piece on the old server if they ever get around to us. They are supposed to take nightly backups in addition too but obviously there are none for the new sql server.

I will have a look for the missing goat and duck images....

The 'All' option is back and I will get our emoticons back again at some stage. But first I must ask the host to move us back to shared hosting so there may be more disruption from early this morning through tomorrow but once we are sorted then there will hopefully be no more disruption.

Still not heard anything from the host about how they managed to corrupt our database and why they have done nothing about it yet either by the way.

Right Dreamhost screwed us again so we are now hosted on a slightly different domain name - forum2.citymancs.com. The site is now hosted using a different host, nicely called bluehost. Dreamhost now only do the DNS which I am hopeful they can't fuck up too badly. I may switch this away from them in the near future anyway. But hopefully for the foreseeable future no further changes will be necessary.

What address are you using when you get that? The actual address we are using now is forum2.citymancs.com however smf.citymancs.com and forum.citymancs.com should both redirect here.

Yes, the old site is back up as an archive (http://smf.citymancs.com/forum/index.php?board=1.0 (http://smf.citymancs.com/forum/index.php?board=1.0)) - not sure for how long as Dreamhost still have to do some work with it. I intend to leave it there with old topics able to be replied to if it stays functional. there are difficulties with staying logged in which is why we had to upgrade in the first place,

Please bookmark the new site.

Wired is still by far the best way to go. Even with Wireless AC, I only get 200Mbps to my server and 400mbps from it using my laptop so still a fraction of gig ethernet.

I notice the database is down again on the old forum so I have put back in place the direct forward to here. Hopefully we will get the old forum back again at some stage. Glad we moved the new place to bluehost though. Please bookmark http://forum2.citymancs.com (http://forum2.citymancs.com).

The webmail still seems to be stuck at Friday for my citymancs account but IMAP access seems fine. If anyone needs help accessing email let me know - the address for imap/smtp is mail.citymancs.com and you put your full email address in as the username. Configuration is pretty standard.

Welcome Bry.

I'm led to believe that Dreamhost are finished arsing about with the old forum. Not a hint of an apology from them. Anyway If you want to look at or even reply to old threads on there you can - if you can stay signed in for long enough that is. It is at http://smf.citymancs.com/forum/index.php (http://smf.citymancs.com/forum/index.php). I will put a link on the citymancs drop down on the main menu on here at some stage as well as looking at any other requests that you are welcome to make.

Gavonatron, can you put the "up" button back?

You should now have 'Go to top' underneath previous next.

SMF 2.0.9 and 1.1.20 security patches have been released. on October 02, 2014, 19:13:50
Critical security patches have been released, addressing a few vulnerabilities in SMF 2.0.x and SMF 1.1.x. We urge all administrators to upgrade as soon as possible. Just visit the package manager to install the patch.

It's a good shout goat,

Should probably remove the version number of the software at the bottom too, nasties will know which exploits are worth trying

Cron some nightly backups too!

So I'm redundant!
Actually that's the same team that had Rooney and Falcao earlier in the season and got a reprieve, so it's no great loss to see the back of them.

That's not true - if she played her wildcard, she could get rid of the rags out of her fantasy team all in one go, and then I bet she'd get another chance.
