I don't think we are getting the full story here, I have a concealed weapons permit but rarely carry a gun. There must be something wrong with the gun for a two year old to use it or irresponsible actions by the mother, the gun should have been on safety. My daughter is 10 onth old and will not go near a gun until she is old enough and responsible to use one.

Yes it is single shot, i intend to use it for hunting this musket will stop anything in its tracks, especially bears and mountain lions. With one shot comes a degree of skill :)

For protection I would use something that loads faster too! However, this musket is specifically designed for hunting, of course I have a back up if I missed. I usually use my Henry Rifles for hunting, my shot gun for home defense along with a Glock G42 :)

depends on each state as each has different laws. Maryland has tightened up on it's gun laws but with false I.d. one can buy what one wants. Transporting assault rifles is problematic so I just keep mine locked up and don't use it.

It certainly is a different culture. I just can't imagine getting or giving a gun as a present. I do wonder though that maybe the proliferation of guns in America is so great and attitudes to them so different that it is impossible for them to ever turn back and take a more sensible approach. It is bizarre that they don't try to do something about it given the regularity of these attacks.
There are plenty of laws in place but each state has different gun laws; Maryland has some of the toughest gun laws. In addition there are far more responsible gun owners than not. I find this an interesting concept, route 66 does not exist anymore other than small parts that are far out of way; it is all highways now, and it will be totally boring to drive. Further, more people go missing and never found on this route (collection of highways) than any other road in America. If you want to drive from Chicago to LA, go northwest from Chicago through Iowa, South Dakota, Montana or Wyoming (skip Idaho as there is nothing there) then come down the west coast through Washington, Oregon, and North California. This way you'll see most of the natural beauty of North America, its breath taking views and National Parks. Yes, it will take longer but is it a far safer route. the old way you'll be crossing deserts and if not prepared it will kill you.

Swiss, how did you know I like marmalade :) However, to go into my back yard can be dangerous, it is over 450 acres of woodland, creeks, and rocky outcrops with small waterfall and caves. ( I now live in the mountains of Western Maryland). however, what you call a back yard with grass and plants and such is only an acre. So it would make sense to carry a rifle at times when I go outside my nice garden.
Bears sometimes come up to the house and rummage through the trash, if they find some food they will keep coming back, that is when I call the park ranger who then does tranquilize the animal and let it go safely in another area that can support the bears habitat. Also, earlier last week I heard strange noises/screams and wood knocking coming from the woods and also last weekend. I went to investigate with my boyfriend (Hubby gone) and we discovered some geeky BigFoot hunters.......lol. Yes, we were armed and legally I could have shot them for trespass, but I found it an interesting concept of hunting a none existant hairy ape so I gave them permission to hunt bigfoot on my land; but call me first. My point here is these guys could have been dangerous villains, serial killers or god knows what! so you see I do need my Henry Rifle when I go out in my back yard. In addition, earlier in the year the police found a Moonshine still on my land and questioned me bout it..........lol. I could have been arrested for conspiracy to make Moonshine, now these are dangerous people. The upshot is that on my land I have drunken tax evaders, Bigfoot, and sad bastards that have too much time on their hands, which are more dangerous than the bears.........lol. :)

Swiss, I am well aware of the Maryland gun laws, I usually joke about shooting trespassers. However, if those Bigfoot hunters were armed then they could have been a threat, therefore I could legally shoot them but common sense usually prevails, I don't want to shoot anyone or everyone that comes on my land. however, the Moonshiners are dangerous, they protect their little empire with vigor as there is a lot of money to be made; tax free. Darlene should not be in my house with a gun unannounced; therefore a legal killing with reasonable force. However, it is not that easy to call the police when one is two mlie up in the mountains and surrounded by trees. I spent a small fortune on installing satellite communication systems so I could have phone, Tv , and internet. It will take about an hour for the police to arrive, I live in a remote area.My mail box is two mile down the mountain so that should give you an idea how remote I am. Nimrod, I bought the land three years ago because of the scenic veiw. I also had a house built made from redwood and cedar. It was intended to be a summer retreat but because of personal events last year I decided to make this house my permanent home. Dispite it's shortfalls I like the quietness and I belive it is safer environment for Raven to grow up in. There are other people nearby and in the valley but overall it is a better community to live in at this moment in time.

According to some reports - the child found the loaded .45-caliber handgun (a serious weapon - none of your .38 / 9mm stuff - the woman is lucky to be alive!) lying loose on "the truck floor" - so that's an unsecured firearm...
And even better - there was a child seat in the back of the truck, but the police reported the child wasn't restrained in it! (Which is presumably how the kid managed to crawl around and locate the weapon on the floor!)

Nimrod, your question suggest that i pack a gun all the time: that I don't do. Further, due to my isolation I have more guns in my house, so to answer your question, it is where I live that I need a weapon, also, If I lived in the outback of Australia I would want some weapon due to the wild life that can kill a human.
To answer your second question, I do live in England, without thinking of a need to carry a gun, I have property in Manchester where I stay for short periods of time during the football season. This gun culture comes down to cultural differences and nothing more. For me, owning guns is a necessity of the environment rather than culture and nothing more.

Paddy, I have no inflated ego. Abolish American gun laws and it will become a free-for-all because of our constitution. What laws we have do work for those responsible gun owners. Remember every state have different gun laws. The NRA are about as corrupt as FIFA and the Olympic committee. Those NRA folks are backward, so are there followers yes they are an antiquated organization that should be abolished.
The constitution needs changing. Times change and laws, constitutions should change with them. They shouldn't be treated as sacrosanct. It is obvious that there is a serious problem that needs addressing and this aspect of the constitution is at the centre of it.
Even religions change drastically. They have to to survive. But something that was written a few hundred years ago is considered inalienable. It is crazy.
Gavin, some parts of the constitution need changing, but there are parts of the constitution that has kept arsehole Trump from over throwing a fair election.
Yes, I'm not saying toss it all out but the right to bear arms needs serious consideration. It is a completely different culture around guns over there. I just can't contemplate how the right to carry lethal weapons anywhere is a good thing. The world is full of idiots, many of them violent.

I'd say that if you attempt to kill multiple people but only succeed in killing one then it is still a mass shooting. It is just not a very successful mass shooting.
