You'd think the list of right backs would be long indeed. Do the rumour mungers actually pay attention to where we need players?
Title: Re: The Epic 17/18 Season Transfer thread
Post by: Swiss on May 30, 2017, 10:44:33
Yep, I was thinking it's a bit light but there's a player in that list that also play RB.

Fabinho

And we have fernandinho.

Bit of money saving???

I wonder if he's decided to give maffeo a chance? Or Angelino?
Anyone been tracking their performances?
Title: Re: The Epic 17/18 Season Transfer thread
Post by: Swiss on May 30, 2017, 10:59:05
My main concern is that we're lacking homegrown and club trained.

We need 8 in the squad. 4 nation trained and 4 club trained.

Currently we have club trained Angus gunn, iheanacho, Tosin, Aleix & Manu Garcia. 5. But none have really been given much playing time.

Then we have sterling, Stones, Delph as nation trained.

Potentially we have Roberts. Maffeo, Angelino & Enes Unal

On one hand could be great, but it's thin ice really.

This article links us with yet more Monaco players:

http://bitterandblue.sbnation.com/2017/5/30/15705832/bernardo-silva-manchester-city-summer-transfer-2017-city-fan-perspective (http://bitterandblue.sbnation.com/2017/5/30/15705832/bernardo-silva-manchester-city-summer-transfer-2017-city-fan-perspective)

Thomas Lemar - an Attacking Midfielder who can play Left, Right and Centre. His youtube looks as though he's more of a Yaya type midfielder than a Silva or Sterling.

Tiémoué Bakayoko - A defensive Midfielder

Lol, it'd be easier to tell us who we haven't been linked with at Monaco.

Gelson, I kind of thought he would be retired but he's only 30.

You got it!
30!? Surely not! Looks as though he's had a decent career for a distinctly average midfielder

Lucas Hernandez from athletico Madrid. Plays CB, LB
Title: Re: The Epic 17/18 Season Transfer thread

I was reading about that on CityWatch (http://www.mcfcwatch.com/2017/06/01/atletico-madrid-agree-to-sell-defender-lucas-hernandez-to-manchester-city-for-e50m/) and apparently it is impacted by the fact that their transfer ban has been upheld.

Pepe Reina (http://www.itasportpress.it/calciomercato/napoli-futuro-al-manchester-city-per-reina/)
Title: Re: The Epic 17/18 Season Transfer thread
Post by: gavin on June 01, 2017, 15:12:07
That seems an odd one, do we really need a backup backup for Claudio now we nearly have Ederson as backup.
Title: Re: The Epic 17/18 Season Transfer thread

Yeah, and not great news for Angus Gunn.
Title: Re: The Epic 17/18 Season Transfer thread
Post by: bbk on June 01, 2017, 16:24:46
I would say Reina would be the back up to Ederson, surely? Bravo will probably fade into a better looking version of Richard Wright.

Gav's little joke, I think.
Title: Re: The Epic 17/18 Season Transfer thread

Lest Bravo is to return to Spain...

Be nice to see if Angus is any good. He's only a couple of years younger than Ederson. Maybe Celtic beckons...
Title: Re: The Epic 17/18 Season Transfer thread
Post by: Swiss on June 07, 2017, 20:46:59
Hilariously, Liverpool have been accused of tapping up Van Dijk, then issued an apology to Southampton FC and announced they have pulled out of the transfer...
Title: Re: The Epic 17/18 Season Transfer thread
Post by: Swiss on June 07, 2017, 20:47:55
Oh and Alexi Sanchez rumours back on.
Title: Re: The Epic 17/18 Season Transfer thread
Post by: gavin on June 07, 2017, 20:51:18
Presumably Southampton have agreed to now drop their complaint about tapping up. Looks like he'll be stuck at shitty Southampton for another season. Very embarrassing climb down for Liverpool but better than a transfer ban.
Title: Re: The Epic 17/18 Season Transfer thread
Post by: Swiss on June 08, 2017, 22:23:35
Well today, Liverpool are back in it! This has more twists than a yankee daytime TV show!

Especially as now the press are quoting £70mil for Virgil - lol

Prediction - Spurs to ask £70mil for Walker tomorrow!
Title: Re: The Epic 17/18 Season Transfer thread

Maybe just buy Arsenal and keep Wenger as head of finding cheap players then we won't have to buy of them

I hope it picks up soon. Maybe it will when the window officially opens but there's not really much to stop deals being done anyway as we did two very early.

Sky reporting that Arsenal have had two bids rejected for players. Is that Sky getting desperate or Arsenal starting early placating their fans?

Not brilliant progress so far on the transfer front is it. Lots of rumours we're nearly there with Alves and Mendy but at the moment we have a squad with no recognised full backs! I'm sure this will get resolved but it's taking longer than planned. We start preseason on Monday and I'm sure Pep would want his targets involved in as much preseason as possible.

Kolarov is a recognised as a full back by me at least though a few might disagree....

I agree the lack of progress has been disappointing though. No mention of a centre half at all so seems that we're relying on Vinny again.

Latest rumours.

Kolarov off to Turkey

Mendy still joining
Alves rumoured to have an offer from PSG
Sergi Roberto offer knocked back
Dalbert offer knocked back

With players returning from summer leave this month, hopefully rumours will turn fact

It annoys me that were such a soft touch and we give the impression that we are buying success too quickly, Id prefer to build a team slowly rather than buy one quickly. I like the way Spurs are doing it.

Their wage cap is around 100k / week.  They have cash, all Premier League clubs have lots of cash.  That wage structure won't last long, or if they stick to it don't expect to see them in the top 4 / 5 for much longer.

The price was inflated for 3 reasons:
1)He's English, for some reason that carries a premium...
2) We are desperate for a decent FB
3) We need HG players

These are two facts we cannot hide from the market & the seller knows it.

Had we invested in full backs 2 years ago, we would not have been in the same position and we would have had a better bargaining position.
That being said, Spurs didn't have to sell.

Maybe so, but if they can keep their manager (big if) they might win it this time or next.

anyway 1 positive from buying Walker is at least Pep is acknowledging we need good defenders

Unless we sign another RB I can't see any other option than to use Maffeo unless we are going to plan on using Fernandinho as RB cover (which would be shortsighted by the club imo).  So I hope we give him a chance too.

We can't buy anyone till January. My main concern transfer wise at the moment is FIFA holding this player that signed for Leicester out to dry until Xmas for the sake of 14 seconds. It is disgraceful.

Apart from anything else it should have been allowed because we need more Silvas in the prem.
