Title: Are we seeing the birth of a new nickname?
Post by: Swiss on October 14, 2017, 20:25:20
#Sharkteam

I've never been a massive fan of 'the Cityzens'. The name isn't exactly something you can rally behind however clever it is!

The blues, meh.

But 'The Sharks' has somewhat of a dangerous sound to it...

The Jaws theme tune as a chant...

It's taken. Abertay Uni are The Sharks, my son was club captain in his final year there, a few seasons back.
So, no thanks.

I don't recall it being spelt with the "y" back in the day - I think that's a bit naff - but I've always quite liked The Citizens as our alternative nickname.

What has Manchester got to do with sharks?

The Southport Sharks are just up the road from where I live

http://southportsharks.com.au/

My badge, when I was a kid, said The Citizens

But I like a play on words so The Cityzens is an improvement for me

What has Manchester got to do with sharks?

I have considered this for a few days and now acknowledge that Manchester has very little to do with bananas either!

I have decided to embrace the shark.

Sharks!!!! Sharks team!!!!

Are we a rugby team, an American football team? I hate it.

We could do much better with a lot of thought and imagination I would think. But in the meantime let's stick with The Cityzens or more correctly The Citizens. That's is my opinion, but I am old so free to ignore and let City youth supporters have the final say.

Never would read the Daily Fail or the Scum Sun.
I will read Mendys explanation and get back, a link to it would have been good.

City doesn't have a lot to do with socialist movements either.

and TBF, Manc had a lot more in common with Eagles but that was shunned!

Mancheter has a canals

Sharks are born through birthing canals

There's your link

Just 'City' will do me

Lets face it there are many other teams called City, but only we are referred to as 'City'
