Title: Furloughed staff football
Post by: KunDB on April 05, 2020, 08:57:08
   STORY LINK GUARDIAN    (https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/apr/04/liverpool-become-latest-premier-league-club-to-furlough-non-playing-staff)

Football shames itself once again. Liverpool (Fenway Sports Group) and other clubs (Spurs/Levy) are now furloughing non-playing staff availing of the 80% payment of wages from the taxpayer designed to prevent small businesses from going under. The PFA also have brought shame on football with their needless resistance to player measures in response to this crisis.

There is no justification for football clubs who have been rolling in fields of gold, and their shareholders reaping very rich rewards over the years, reward for the risk of investing their money. Well now the risks have materialised they cannot cry and demand the taxpayer ensures they suffer NO PAIN, NO LOSS, AND KEEP THEIR RICH GAINS UNAFFECTED. It is disgraceful.

Clubs have failed to plan and concentrated on greed and lavish rewards for shareholders, owners, and players with absolutely no regard for the rainy day. I am not impressed by their cries of pain that they will have to pay back £750m in football TV rights unless the season finishes, and (tears) clubs may go bust or struggle to cope. Hard luck you greedy selfish milker's. You have taken every chance to milk the fans, rig the rules to protect the elite, prevent fair investment from outside to protect the current football bubble's elite and deny a flow of money to lower league and non-league clubs. The time for reckoning has come - sadly as always this will be avoided and those exploiting football will walk away without any loss and probably be enriched.

Even during this crisis 9 clubs in the PL managed to selfishly come together to pay large sums to legal eagles to write a letter of objection to CAS just in case City should seek a pause of their UEFA punishment, even though City have not done this yet. Motivation selfishness and a desire for their clubs to gain financial benefit and jealously of City breaking the elite bubble.

Liverpool having to rely on the taxpayers (My money, Your money, Football Fans money, Zero hours contract workers tax money,  'People working multi jobs but still left having to rely on benefits' tax money, Health staff on low wages risking their lives daily who pay tax etc.) to pay their staff needs put in context:
"On 27 February Liverpool announced pre-tax profits of £42m and increased turnover to £533m in the 2018-19 financial year. In 2017-18 they posted a world record pre-tax profit for a football club of £125m."

Never mind the players who should contribute to help the country in this time of great crisis (15% economic hit expected and a massive recession) what are the owners, shareholders and TV companies who have reaped the rich rewards over the last 28 years since the formation of the PL doing to help the country and contribute back?

Moaning that they will lose money, contributing nothing and demanding bail outs from you and me.

Liverpool are disgraceful greedy grabbers.

I see the obsession with footballers taking a pay cut as a political red herring though. It should be between the players and their employers to negotiate. The health secretary should stay out of it. Footballer's and other's normal pay levels are sick compared to the general population and NHS staff. It is that general problem with capitalist society that should be addressed not whether they take a temporary symbolic pay cut now.
