I've only used transfermarkt prices just to standardise values, otherwise it just based on what I think.

I'm not sure Covid-19 will affect that much... having said that, it may be a buyers market if clubs are struggling for cash due to loss of earnings. But then, those clubs must be running close to the wire... FFP?

Maybe agree... but then what are the realities of bringing them in?

Kalibaly: Ian Wright reckons its a done deal, so probably won't happen. Hes 29 so got a good 3 to 4 seasons left.
Alaba I doubt as we've reportedly failed for a swap deal involving Sane. Similar age to Koulibaly, but attacking wingbacks don't tend to fair as well in age, so I can see us getting someone younger.
Pau Torres. Maybe, but then there are other young options too.
Yan Cuoto is a done deal. Brazilian, only 18. Peps reportedly told him he wants to look at him in pre-season with a view to keeping him for the first team. Young, new country, who knows! But could explain why he's tried to play Garcia  at RB.
Ferran Torres; reports we've agreed personal terms but not met the valuation of the club.
L. Martinez. Reports are he prefers Barcelona.

I do feel like our forward options should be scoring more with the amount of opportunities we create.

Valencia Torres contract ends 2021, so he will be moving on. Alaba, same.
Koulibaly, very expensive, no spring chicken, never played in our league, no sell on value - sounds ideal. Have read he is a great player though.

Nathan Ake is strongly linked

I'd be happy with Ake, at 25 meets the clubs ethos of buying players around the age of 26.

A strong presence, good in the air and likes a tackle.
Dutch so should be a decent passer.

£35 mil could be a steal...

I think he’d be an upgrade on Stones and Ota, but not exactly the colossus we needed at CB I was hoping for.  But underwhelming tbh.
Title: Re: Summer transfers challenge
Post by: lee on July 21, 2020, 08:19:27
Ake is a scrapper.I quite like that and he's good with the ball at his feet and looks comfortable unlike Stones who looks like he's about to trip up.
I was hoping for a better upgrade though for Stones and Nico.Still i hope we get more than one in and snag the Naples lad just for a few seasons which will help with the development of Garcia and Ake(if that happens) and gives us a better chance to get back our crown next season.
Title: Re: Summer transfers challenge
Post by: KunDB on July 21, 2020, 10:35:50
Ake can also play as a left back.

So I am guessing that anther Centre Back (Kalidou Koulibaly I am hoping) may well come in as well, we certainly need more competition for our defensive slots.

Laporte, Ake, Koulibaly and Garcia would provide decent CB competition.

Post by: Paddy on July 21, 2020, 22:28:47
I would keep Cancelo, played well tonight, and i would keep Zinchenko, far superior to Mendy, the rest of the team good, even Stones. Otemdi to old, Fernadino and Silva past their sell by date. Walker, forgetful at times but still fast...
Title: Re: Summer transfers challenge
Post by: Swiss on July 21, 2020, 23:50:09
On tonight's showing, Cancelo has to stay, but that depends on him being consistent.

I'm not convinced by Zinchenko yet. For an academy product who played attacking mid, I feel he can do a lot better with attacking contributions.

get this thread moving again..

So we have made 2 signings..A defender and a winger..

Who next and who is out?

I would like to see a few more faces..Another CB and a striker seeing as Sergio is unfit for most of season and Jesus is hit and miss.

Exactly what we need and we need the best of the best available in these positions. Despite his game against Barcelona Koulibaly would be a good first of the three. Martinez would be nice too.

Stones, Otamendi, Zinchenko ( :( ) Angelino & Garcia all gone I reckon.

I’ve been trying to watch a bit of Martinez since we’ve been linked with him. Really not sure, looks ok, but not a patch on Aguero, and not worth the money banded out, looks very similar to Jesus, only not quite as good!  We could really do with a different type of striker to give us some variety up front, someone bigger, more physical with real pace. Although for sure there this a derth of that type of striker around at the moment.

I still can’t understand why our academy, given all the investment over the years, hasn’t tried to target home grown strikers of this ilk. Even if they don’t make the grade in our first team, they make the most money for resale.
Title: Re: Summer transfers challenge
Post by: Swiss on August 22, 2020, 10:56:50
I know he's only 20, but if he's a main striker, 35 matches and 9 goals isn't the best return.

Is he more attacking mid than striker?
Title: Re: Summer transfers challenge
Post by: lee on August 22, 2020, 11:54:28
Kane wont win feck all with Spurs..Surely he knows that.I would have him at City as a different option.I honestly cant see Kun staying fit for a season and Jesus for all his graft and running is not lethal enough.
Title: Re: Summer transfers challenge
Post by: Hesperus on August 22, 2020, 12:43:35
I’m coming around to Kane but it’ll never happen with Levy at Spuds.

You’re totally right about Aguero and Jesus.

I don’t think Aguero has ever had a full season since he’s signed? If he ever had a full season with us he’d have won the golden boot for sure.

Erling Harland. Some striker this lad is, id blow all our Messi budget on this player. Pace, power, physicality and a great finisher.

It would be a gamble given his age and cost but sometimes you have to go all in.

I like Ake and Torres but Ake on his own isn’t going to be able to shore up our defence to the standard needed to compete in the CL and possibly even the PL.

How we’ve not been able to source a LB over the last 4 or 5 seasons has been a major failure in our transfer business.

Mikki van Sas (16), full-backs Yan Couto (18) and Kluiverth Aguilar (18), midfielders Romeo Lavia (16) and Josh Adam (16), plus forwards Liam Smith (17) and Pablo Moreno (18).

Interesting that they've missed Issa Kaboure

Peps says our transfer business is done. Diaz looks like a good signing, Ake strengthens us because Laporte gets a lot of injuries and I think he’ll miss a lot of games again this season.

Not addressing LB again is criminal and a major weakness in our transfer strategy. I know Ake can play there but he is not a specialist LB.

I think we’ll struggle again at times this season. Weakness at LB, lack of energy at DM and lack of cover upfront for Aguero, who I expect to spend a large amount of time out injured unfortunately. I think we could be in for a similar season to last season. Good but not good enough.

With a net spend of under £50m in this transfer window it leaves me wondering why our LB problem has not been addressed. Is the savings bank being topped up in preparation for Messi (I hope not). Also, a bit surprised that an Aguero back up/successor has not been acquired, not just relying on Jesus.

We don't know what we're working with in terms of budget.

It might be that FFP is having a large restriction, especially given the current economic crisis.

It might also be, rather than panic buy, our targets weren't available at this time.
