Who would you buy and how would you set up?

I agree with most. As others have said, Kolarov is playing well, but angling for a move. I cant see him staying if his mates go. Rumours of Cresswell coming in, but would like to see Angelino get his chance.

I cannot see us getting Pogba, so Axel Witsel maybe. Schneiderlin as well.

I can see Real Madrid coming for Aguero. If he wants to go, we should respect his wishes.(He is the best player in our league, great attitude/will to win and work rate - gutted to see him go). Bale and Benzema from them should be part of the package.

Lavezzi is not playing at PSG, I think he has a year on his contract left, decent back up.

Navas is not good enough. Sterling is itching for a move, just concerned by his attitude/antics.

De Bruyne, Reus would be better.

Post by: Swiss on May 15, 2015, 16:17:38
Kolarov only wanted a move because Clichy kept getting in ahead of him, but now he's proving his worth.

I don't see why we won't be competing for Pogba? TBH I don't know that much about him other than what I've read which tends to be "Great energy, good on the ball, box to box...". I know even less about Witsel.

Pellers has issued a "hands off" warning for Aguero. I can't see us selling our greatest striker ever (in my memory)!

I did think about Benzema but... if we're playing 1 up top, do we need 4 strikers?

We've been linked with Levazzi since the Tevez departure... Not sure he's as good as Tevez and I'd rather just give our youth Strikers a bish bash bosh!

You're right, Navas has been poor... But he's still got the most assists in the league for City this year with 8. If he can add goals to his game then he could come good...

Pogba, Sterling and Bale in. Re-sign Richards. Cliches, Dzeko, Jovetic, Miller, Ya Ya out.

Gotze - who ate all the pies then.

I believe Yaya, Jovetic and Dzeko will definitely go. Milner and Richards wont be employed by us shortly as their contracts end. Fernando is slow and cant pass forward. Valencia have committed to sign the beast. Nasri tried really hard for his first game, after that? Sinclair/Boyata have a year on their contracts, whats the point.
Navas is a trier, but disappointed in his assists and goal contribution.

We are in a race with PSG to see who can win the Chumps league first, bragging rights in the middle east.

There were rumours that they weren't going to... Not sure how water tight the contract to buy him is. Said to be for E27m: Let's hope we agreed it in sterling!

:D I thought there was some sort of sausage incident akin to the:

Bit of a rude song, don't play if your gran is near!

I fully expect Lots of people to be in for the 3 top targets there: Bale, Pogba & De Bruyne... But we can compete!
Title: Re: Who goes, who stays and who do we buy?
Post by: Neil Mcnab on May 16, 2015, 12:00:10
Things move on - mobile phones, used to gerbils didnt it.

De Bruyne has showed well in the Bundesliga. So did Kagawa. Its big money, no player is certain to be successful, but its more of a gamble with De Bruyne.

Bale would be as near as certain success, but the only reason we might get him is if he agreed to be part of a deal taking Kun to Madrid.

Pogba - league champion - champions league finalist. Stepping down to come to us? I see PSG in his homeland more likely.

Title: Re: Who goes, who stays and who do we buy?
Post by: Swiss on May 16, 2015, 20:48:57
That was Richard Gere (allegedly)!  ;D

I agree, De Bruyne is a gamble... but covers both wings and through the centre. He's young and could be with the team for many years.

As see Bale as maybe wanting to go to utd (boo). Giggs is his hero afterall! But I would expect us to go for him.
Bales stock has publicly gone down this year, a big enough bid without Kun could be enough for them to cut their losses.

Not really a step down if we're both in the Champs league, OK they're finalists but they wont be there every season and there's more money in the prem... . Has said (again allegedly) that he'd come back to the Prem.

Id like to just get Bale, Pogba & a top class CB

team doesnt need much, but mgr isnt top class defensively (obviously)

Nasri - Yaya - Dzeko out
Title: Re: Who goes, who stays and who do we buy?

We're going to need a pair of CM's with Toure and Lampard going. Possibly Milner add another cm/ winger.
Add another winger anyway

Looks like Robbens being linked; I like him, but at 31 and made of glass, I can't help but feel we should be looking elsewhere
Title: Re: Who goes, who stays and who do we buy?

We're being linked to this 20-year old left back. Bit of a kick in the teeth to Angelino... but he looks ok in this vid, even if the standard of footy looks awful in places... Plays for Ausberg. Cameo for De Brunye too

Nope, I'm not old and confused, Jerome is not a top class defender IMO, he always seems to have a costly error in him. A fully fit Aguero would have shown him up in the World Cup final just as he did in the CL game in the season just gone.

Isco?

Looks like they're tring to replicate the Xavi/Inesta partnership of barce

Would be nice to get Scniederlin behind them and two proper wing forwards.

I wouldn't mind Lacazette... but I've only seen a few vids of him.

Aguero, Bony, Ian Nacho and Lacazette... as a strike force!

Fabian Delph isnt even top 6 material, gash. Or a winner if we are unfortunate enough to sign him.
Schneiderlin is classed as home grown, about the same age and a better player. Yes hes more defensive, but different class to Delph.

Sterling - I already think £30 million is already well over priced for him. Pray the latest £40 million offer is the last.

If we are desperate to sign English/British players, Clyne and Stones. Walcott has a year on his contract. Or even better Aaron Ramsey, unlikely.

here's a post from Bluesky on mancityblues

"Yesterday evening Bartomeu, the Barca president, said on his official Twitter feed that they've pulled out of the Pogba deal saying the coach decides which players he wants and he doesn't want Pogba. My own view is that Juve and Barca were just old mates conniving to try to push the price up from City. Tentatively I'd say it was back on."

On Delph, I'd be wary... but I'd give him a shot over Fernando after last season!

On Pogba: Pres elections... Maybe FIFA stepped in and told them they couldn't do any deals. May Juve told them to bugger off for the reasons of the Champs league... Maybe they just don't want to sell...

If we buy him it's because the club wants to, regardless of the price. We'll have bought a young, exciting, potentially world class player.

But this is City, so we'll have the naysayers, the 'grass is always greener' people, the foreign is always best people and assorted 'I know better' people.

you can reduce the squad of 25. So so far we can register 21 players.
U-21 players don't count towards the total (but sort of do if we're counting HG and we don't have a full squad). I prob haven't explained that well...

What I'm hoping we do, when we sell Dzeko and Jovetic, is use Ian Nacho... That's up to 5.

I forgot to add Denayer at CB, that's 6.

So in reality, we only need 2 more.

I'm still unsure if Pogba & De Bruyne count as HG...
Title: Re: Who goes, who stays and who do we buy?
Post by: Swiss on July 13, 2015, 12:37:04
Pogba signed for the rags on the 7th October 2009 (Aged 16) and left July 2012 ( aged 19)

To me that's less than 3 calendar years...

De Bruyne does not count towards HG. He joined chavski's at age 21

Surely the quota rules we can have a maximum of 17 'foreign' players the other eight places could be made up from homegrown and kids?
Title: Re: Who goes, who stays and who do we buy?
Post by: Swiss on July 13, 2015, 13:24:50
Yep, so a squad of 25.

If you don't have 8 hg, you reduce the amount of non-hg.

Title: Re: Who goes, who stays and who do we buy?

Squad as it stands

GK: Hart, Cabellero & Wright (2 x HG)
LB: Kolarov, Clichy (1 x HG)
CM: Kompany, Demichelis, Mangala, Denayer (1 x HG)
RB: Zabaleta, Sagna
LM: N/a
CM: Silva, Fernandino, Yaya, Fernando, Nasri
RM: Navas, Sterling (Subject to medical) (1 x HG)
ST: Aguero, Bony, Dzeko, Jovetic

squad size 22 (Max 25 of over 21's, squad includes 2 x under 21's)
HG = 5 (Minimum 8 or squad restrictions)
Non-HG = 17 (Maximum)

Current Status: Good to Go for the new season in terms of squad Non-HG/HG rule.

If we sign Pogba and De Bruyne, I don't beleive either will be HG meaning we'll have to lose 2 x Non-HG.
Dzeko and Jovetic look to be on their way out so there's room for the other two, but looks light in the striking department (leaving 2).
Also heavy on the CM department with 6 (5 + Pogba).
If we're playing 451 next season this will mean 3 berths for CM and 1 for striker, which to me, confirms that we're playing this formation given squad players at our disposal.

We can boost one of the strikers with Ian Nacho or one of the other teenagers we've just signed up front (The Turkish and French lads): Or two of them...
Can't do much worse than Dzeko or Jevetic last year!

Reports we're lining up James McCarthy or Ross Barkely from Everton... Must be a replacement for Fernando who had a miserable season... Would Add 1 to our HG quota, but would they add anything to our squad?

Very true

also :

" the whole “City ruin English players” cliche is groundless guff.

In fact, English players have picked up a grand total of 24 medals in the last five years â€" more than at any other English club.

Of course, there have been let-downs, and everyone throws up the names of Scott Sinclair, Jack Rodwell and Adam Johnson â€" but they also ignore the success stories of Joe Hart, James Milner, Gareth Barry Micah Richards and Joleon Lescott."

It's not something I mind actually, with 17 non-HG allowed in your team, still allows us to get the best foreign talent and ensures our youth team actually means something. 5 years time I reckon we'll be churning out quite a lot of decent talent.

remember HG doesn't have to be English.

Demi prob in his last season
Mangala looks like bambi on ice
Denayer unknown

I'd say yes and loan out Mangala to someone like Villa, could do him a world of good with a season with someone else in the prem under his belt.

I estimated we had roughly £240m (with player sales) to spend this window/season.

So far we have
£44m (£5m on add ons that haven't been spent yet). Sterling
8m Delph
8m Roberts (£3m add ons).
£2m Unal
£2m Faupala (assumed).

Total £64m

£240m - £64m = £176m left in the war chest: How to spend it???

Assuming we sell Dzeko & Jovetic, do we need a striker?
Aguero, Bony, Iheanacho With Sterling/Nasri as emergency striker: It's a gamble but if we're only playing one up top then why would we need another?

Wide fwd/mid: We assume we're in for De Bruyne. We have Sterling, Navas, Roberts, Barker. Depending on loans for the kids, Yes, at least one.

Creative CM: We have Silva, Nasri, Rony Lopes: Good here

Box 2 Box/ General/ goal scorer: Yaya: Need to strengthen here

Holding/ Defensive Mid/ We have Delph, Fernando, F'Dinho, Zucullini, Manu Garcia: We're too heavy here, need to lose one or two,

LB: Clichy, Kolarov, Angelino. Possible change in one of the players as both turn 30 this year. Angelino on loan.

RB: Zabba, Sagna, Maffeo: No real need to change this season. Sagna is 32 and would be "A" change, but not necessary this year.

CB: Kompany, Demichelis, Mangala, Denayer. Demi turns 35 in December, Mangala hasn't convinced anyone yet, Denayer unproven. I'd say yes to strengthen.

GK: Hart, Willy, Wright: No need to buy save to replace Willy (no pun intended).

So:

1 x Winger
1 x Mid General/Box2boxer
1 x LB
1 x CB

£176m

Who would you buy!? (You don't have to fill all 4 roles).

Just checked, Otamendi was loaned out to some club in Brazil in February 2014 when Velencia had bought him but then played a full season for Valencia from August 2014 to close (38 apps).

I know the Rags have been heavily linked with him so it might be that the red tops are just stirring or his agent is trying to hurry up a potential deal by saying others are interested...

For CB:

Sergio Ramos seems to be available. Hot headed, 29, likened to Paolo Maldini...: perfect age for a CB, but is it perfect temperment? Can Fill in at RB when needed. Winning mentality.

Thiago Silva (No links to him in press) but Baresi has stated he's the defender who currently most resembles his playing style... Turns 31 in September so not quite as attractive as Ramos (Steady now) but again a winning mentality.

Giorgio Chiellini (Again no links... this year!). 31 in August. Another agressive player. Hard tackler, good in the air.. Versatile at LB. Looks mental...

All three are fast, have good technical ability, plenty of experience & consistent. I'd be happy with any of them.

Otamendi, 27: Game time wise, he's played a fraction of what the other two have. 235 senior games since 2007. Covering 8 seasons that's an average of 29 games per season incl. all cup games.

Thiago Silva, 379 games over what looks like 10 seasons... Average of 37.9 games per season

Sergio Ramos, 494 games over 12 seasons. Average of 41.1 games per season despite being the record holder for red cards for Real Madrid!

Giorgio Chiellini. 466 games over 15 seasons. Average of 31 games per season and this takes into account his 3 break through years where he only had a maximum of 7 games in a year for Livorno.

I think Ramos (If true he can leave RM) would be around the £35 to 40m mark. He's also the youngest out of the three more established CB's.
If they don't want to sell then his price may double... but we'd be getting someone of quality we know isn't bambi on ice.

I don't know much about players in Europe but Paolo Maldini is a legend so his kids would be worth it -except that my dad was a good dancer and I've got 3 left feet so it doesn't always follow. My dad was also very handsome... and that didn't follow either :(

The moaning that's still going on about how much City are ready to spend is becoming a complete fucking bore now. it seems like every paper, every blog in the sport I'm sick of them. In fact I've decided Sterling is the best player we've ever bought and I feckin love him from now on and the young lads too. The oil money is wasted on anything other than football IMO so keep blowing it Sheik Mansour old lad We're right with you. It'll be the most expensive Silverware ever and it'll be ours

Only remember Otamendi from 2010 world cup, he was very. very poor.

Whats wrong with Bonucci as a defender?

Denayer and Mangled need to shine, difficult to do that if they are not playing.

Toure is no longer a regular starter for me. Given his wages, he is a very expensive and no doubt disruptive bench warmer. He should have been top of the list for replacements. No other club would pay what we are paying him, so unless we can engineer some exit, with a golden goodbye, he will be like an albatross round the neck for the next two years. A very slow, jogging type albatross.

After buying the young ones, it's all gone dead again. DeBruyn is finally thinking about maybe moving on, perhaps, well, it's worth thinking about, well it's nice to think some big club wants you...lalala ... but nowt else is happening unless Cheeky B is working below the radar

So we need a CM: Other than goats monotonous suggestion of Hamsik who is not a midfield general... who's out there in the talasmanic form? That midfield general we're lacking.

Thiago Alacantre?
Blaise Matuidi?
Javi Martinez?
Ilkay Gundogen?
Hernanes?
Lars Bender?

Cheeky...

Though I don't think any of them are like Paddy Viera really. I'm struggling to think of any that are talasmanic in the form of Viera, Gerrard, Lampard etc.
If you look at our central mid you're not exactly 'scared' of anyone bar Silva and he's a completely different type of scary.
When the chips are down, we need a leader in the middle.

So your argument there is a hard working technical midfield?

And what we're missing is work ethic in the centre?

well toure is finished
fernando never started
nasri is a shithouse that goes missing
navas is one of the worst crossers of a ball ive seen for a winger and thats if he does cross and not do that thing of beating the fullback and then laying it back to zabba for some reason

we need a whole midfield

Jankles Wilshere is injured, again. Surely we cannot be stupid enough to sign the sick note.

I take it De Bruyne is coming in.

In my opinion Toure needs to go. Who to replace him, or at least add to somewhere in the centre? Witsel/Kroos/Hamsik/Isco? I am guessing this is wishful thinking, he will be "honouring" his contract as no one else can pay his "generous" wages. No cakes necessary.

Forwards We have Bony and Aguero, after Jovetic and Dzeko go. One more in? Morata at Juve would do.

I cannot argue with that.

We have been linked to De Bruyne and others the problem we have is we cannot shift the ones we already have. (from OS)

Midfielders

Bruno Zuculini
Fabian Delph
Fernandinho Luiz Roza
Fernando Francisco Reges
Raheem Sterling
Marcos Lopes
Samir Nasri
Jesus Navas
David Silva
Yaya Toure

Missing that Manu Garcia lad who impressed on tour.

To be honest, the three that didn't impress last season were the Nando's & Toure.

Delph looks to have the work rate which will be welcome.

I think we'll play 5 in the "middle".

Two Box to boxers: Silva in the hole and De Bruyne/ Sterling as wide forwards, merging from 451 to 433

I think this is how we will line up against WBA

------------------Bony--------------------
Sterling--------------------------------Navas
----------------Silva--------------------------
-----------Toure----Fernandinho-------------
Kolarov--------------------------------Sagna
-----------Mangala----Kompany-------------
-------------------Hart-----------------------

With a view to this in the future

------------------Aguero--------------------
Sterling-----------------------------De Bruyne
----------------Silva--------------------------
-----------Delph----Pogba-------------
Kolarov--------------------------------Zabba
-----------A.n.other----Kompany-------------
-------------------Hart-----------------------

Club
Atlético Madrid
La Liga: 2013â€"14
Copa del Rey: 2012â€"13
Supercopa de España: 2014; Runner-up 2013
UEFA Europa League: 2011â€"12
UEFA Super Cup: 2010, 2012

I'd be over the blue moon with this one! At 29, still got 4 good seasons in him. Loads of experience. Got a bag load of honours, where do we sign :D

Contracted until 2018 so it doesn't smell of him trying to win a new contract...

It's starting to gather pace in other sources now.

As with all Spanish contracts, there is a release clause: Godin's is apparently E40.

For some reason work have blocked the conversion sites so I can't tell what current market values are, but guestimating Dzeko's E20m is £14m, then that puts the figure at £28m. A Bargain in these climates for a well seasoned CB.

In other news, De Bruyne has reportedly come out and said "I'm not the one saying I'll definitely stay" which has sparked the red tops into a Frenzy and (As always) Utd are now being linked with him too.

From what I've read over the last few weeks is that we haven't even put a bid in for him yet...

From what I can see, our Nett spend at the moment is £22m (or £32m depending on below)

Sterling - £44m initial fee (5m dependent so doesn't count atm)
Fabian Delph - £8m
=£52m

As I understand it, Fee's for youth developement don't count... so
Unal - £2m
Faupal - £U/K
Roberts - £8 initail Fee (£3m add ons)
wont count, if they do it's £62m spend.

Sales
Jovetic - £11m (Loan with buy at the end, we know we can count the money now due to the Negredo deal)
Dzeko - £14m
Boyata - £1.5m
Rekik - £3.5m
= £30m

Nett = £22 or £32

De Bruyne = E60m (£42m)
Godin = E40m (£28m)
Total Nett = £70m
Title: Re: Who goes, who stays and who do we buy?
Post by: Swiss on August 06, 2015, 14:30:59
Missed out Sinclair's £2.5m fee.

I estimated at the beginning of this thread we have a £150m "Warchest" from the new premleague deal and the winnings from last season.

Total spend could be (expensive estimate): £62 + £70 = £132m

Total Recouped: £32.5m

Total Nett spend = £99.5m

£50.5m spare, just enough to spend on Pogba ;)
