Soriano has "stated" that Pep will use a 15 man squad next season as he likes to work with a small trusted few. The shortfall will/may be made up from the youth!

https://www.clubcall.com/manchester-city/soriano-makes-small-squad-admission-1811656.html?

Apparently that's how he likes to work and did so at Bayern & Barce...

Looking at bayern's wiki squad it has 29... not sure how many are youth

goat

but didnt they say city will be playing 4-4-3 and pelle has all different plans

why are we even hearing from these people? swales didnt bang on about squads

Swiss

Ha ha! Banged on about the right things no....

I've been going over this in my head. Starting 11 plus 4 subs.

The rest are make weights like the sub keeper and the youth team.

A normal squad will be 25 men.
A standard set up could be considered as:
3 gk
4 cb
4 wb (L&R)
5 cm (Def & box2box)
5 am (wide and central)
4 str

So with 15, the core would look like

1 Gk
3 cb
3 wb
4 cm (cause pep loves a cm)
2 am
2 st

That means the 10 others that would make up the 25 man squad will not expect to play on a regular basis or at all barring injuries. But it would give the youth players access to train with the main squad.

What it also does is bring your spending down a little and stops your team having a load of old Bony sat around doing nothing.

The risk... injuries which we seem to keep on getting!

goat

kids certain age dont count towards the squad limit either

KunDB

Hard to see a squad of 15 surviving all season, with the number of games we play, no Christmas break and the intensity of almost every game (hence the injuries).

Just will not happen.

goat

a 15 man core squad, not just using 15 for fucks sake

it means less chopping and changing

bry the guy

Didnt Liecster only use 15 players last season?

If we played a keeper with that outfield formation it might give us a bit of an advantage I suppose.

Ludo

Does the Bundesliega or La Liga have a League Cup to contend with? And I know there's 4 fewer league games in Germany he he might have got away with a smaller squad.

Swiss

yer, one cup and their Charity shield (Or whatever it's called now).

Bayern won the cup a week ago.

4-3-3

With a core of the below incorporating current squad and players pep want in. Two season evolution or a complete revolution!

1 Gk
3 cb
3 wb
4 cm (cause pep loves a cm)
2 am
2 st

I'm at a loss as to who will stay or go, hard to call!

Current Squad List

No.      Position   Player
1   England   GK   Joe Hart (Stay)
13   Argentina   GK   Willy Caballero (Stay, what's the point in spending big on a Deuce!)
29   England   GK   Richard Wright (Retired - replace with Youth)

3   France   DF   Bacary Sagna (Sell)
4   Belgium   DF   Vincent Kompany (captain) (Stay)
5   Argentina   DF   Pablo Zabaleta (Stay)
11   Serbia   DF   Aleksandar Kolarov (Sell)
30   Argentina   DF   Nicolás Otamendi (Stay)
20   France   DF   Eliaquim Mangala (Sell)
22   France   DF   Gaël Clichy (Sell)
26   Argentina   DF   Martín Demichelis (Let go)

6   Brazil    MF   Fernando (Sell)
7   England   MF   Raheem Sterling (Stay)
8   France   MF   Samir Nasri (Sell)
42   Ivory Coast   MF   Yaya Touré (Sell)
â€"   Australia   MF   Luke Brattan (Sell)
21   Spain     MF   David Silva (Stay)
15   Spain     MF   Jesús Navas (Sell)
17   Belgium   MF   Kevin De Bruyne (Stay)
18   England   MF   Fabian Delph (Stay)
25   Brazil           MF   Fernandinho (Stay)

72   Nigeria   FW   Kelechi Iheanacho (Stay)
14   Ivory Coast   FW   Wilfried Bony (Sell)
10   Argentina   FW   Sergio Agüero (Stay)

Leaves a 12 man squad (11 core due to keeper) like:

No.      Position   Player
1   England   GK   Joe Hart (Stay)
13   Argentina   GK   Willy Caballero (Stay, what's the point in spending big on a Deuce!)

4   Belgium   DF   Vincent Kompany (captain) (Stay)
5   Argentina   DF   Pablo Zabaleta (Stay)
30   Argentina   DF   Nicolás Otamendi (Stay)

7   England   MF   Raheem Sterling (Stay)
21   Spain     MF   David Silva (Stay)
17   Belgium   MF   Kevin De Bruyne (Stay)
18   England   MF   Fabian Delph (Stay)
25   Brazil           MF   Fernandinho (Stay)

72   Nigeria   FW   Kelechi Iheanacho (Stay)
10   Argentina   FW   Sergio Agüero (Stay)

Therefore I think we'll buy (or promote from youth):

1CB
2WB
2CM
1AM
1 ST

(Press speculating we'll buy 5 to 8 players)

That leaves a 19 man squad (18 core) for year 1 with up to 6 youth players.

Ludo

He retired a few weeks ago.

goat

he could have retired a few years ago for all hes played

Swiss

He's taken up a coaching role with the academy, so still on the pay role

goat

fuckin hell, landed on his feet that bloke

KunDB

I simply cannot see us survive in the PL using a core of 15.

Yes youth will no doubt supplement and finally be used in the league cu games, maybe even early rounds of fa cup. But unless he buys armour plated players injuries will mean a lot of the time we will be fielding youth players in significant games.
