What are our thoughts ?

It's all good once it settles down and referees learn to apply it properly - which will happen given time.

bluebrendan

Yes, like any new tech it has teething problems that have been apparent in the trials but that's what the trials are for. It should mean more correct decisions are arrived at which can only be a good thing.

The Blue Blooded Maniac

Hmmm not too sure to be honest. The technology is fine for factual decisions like did the ball cross the line, mistaken identity and what not, but the decisions that are divided by opinion is a no. If referees are shit then they are shit, var isn't going to solve that.

nimrod

What Pesto said.

Mixed feelings on it so far. I think they need to show what is being reviewed on the big screens to avoid confusing delays as far as possible for the crowd as well as making the process as quick as possible. We need right decisions but not at the cost of the speed of the game. It can be hard to build up pressure on an opponent and lengthy breaks could change the momentum of a game.

The trials have made clear that they have to stick to fundamental errors rather than micro analysing close decisions.

Couple of things one the clue is in the term "assistant" so meant to help clear up unclear situations, in the following :- goals, incidents leading to goals, penalties, red cards, and mistaken identities.
So far so good providing it does assist  slowing down play in a video doesn't always clear up circumstances.
In the end still up to the ref to make the call.
Secondly the lack of information to the stadium supporters makes for a confused, disgruntled reaction, which I don't think is helpful so needs to be addressed.

bry the guy

We have four official refs involved in the games so why dose it have to be the ref that has to walk 50 yards across the pitch to view VAR while the fourth official can do it instead? They all have the same qualifacations.

that explains why its fucked up, stevie is trying to watch emmerdale on it

Paddy

Will it make refs obsolete in the distant future ?

gavin

They should start sacking refs that are clearly not up to the job. If Martin Atkinson is an elite ref then there's no hope for the human race.
