The Blue Blooded Maniac

I was only young when we were bouncing between the Premier league, division one and two, but I do remember the buzz and the excitement of the chase for the top spots, play off spots and play off games. I know it was a totally different time and obviously appreciate that things are so much better now. But just wanted to say, I did enjoy it at the time.

My main memories from he pre take over era are:
Me dad and uncle coming home bladdered after the 99 play off final and me mam bollockin them both. This even a special memory as me uncle isn't with us anymore.

Being in me local in droylsdump in the new Inn watching city vs rags in the 4th round I think of the FA Cup in around 2001/2? It was a city pub (shut down now) and I had a pint glass launched at the back of me head (I was 11/12) and me dad and uncle escorted the rag outside who launched it for a chat. The land lady and bar maids were very friendly and kept the cokes coming :D

Watching the Blackburn promotion game in the pub with me dad and uncle again.

Attending the first competitive game at the COMS (as we used to call it (christ, how old am I?!?) against TNS in the UEFA Cup. We would get knocked off in the next qualifying round against sporting Lockeren???

Being at the match against Middlesbrough where David James went up front for the last few minutes to win us a penalty. Only for Fowler to miss it and us to finish 8th and not qualify for the UEFA Cup the next season. I was 14ish I think and was devesated as I though that was as good as it got. Distraught to me dad he said don't worry, it'll get better than this. Ooooooo how fekin right he was!!!! I still remember that moment very fondly.

Being at the losing effort to Hamburg in the UEFA Cup quarter final when Mpenza should have got a hand ful. Definitely the best game at the COMS before the take over.

I don't know, being working class I think we appreciate the good times but can relate more to the shite times haha.

One post take over memory I'm going to add.
Being in the Townley with me dad watchin the QPR match. When we were 2-1 down there were people shouting how shite we were. I shouted back about the 99 comeback. Then we equalised, then Kun did that! And then me dad disappeared for a few minutes but I carried on celebrating with the world and his wife, then he appeared, saying his glasses got knocked off his face, he shrugged his shoulders then we carried on celebrating!

Yee, I've had a couple of bottles of wine.

I was 10 when I saw David Pleat running on the Maine Road pitch in '83. Relegation was a real shock. So I've been around for all the ups and downs of the last few decades. A real sufferance over the years.

After that, relegation wasn't such a surprise until the Jamie Pollock own goal. That was probably close to the Pleat incident. We were in the Gene Kelly that day and just before full time it started pissing down. So by the time we got to the car we were as good as down and soaking. Still there were some good away days in Div 2 and winning the play off was great.

Honestly, I'd rather be a yo-yo team than a mid table side. The roller-coaster is a much better ride. Of course, it is much better still to be fighting at the top all the time like we are now but we weren't ever going to be close without big investment.

Wembley 81 crying in the car on the way home....

Being in the main stand when we beat Hudders 10-1 and having a tenner nicked out of my pocket before i went in always sticks in my head...

When we beat the rags and Fowler scored.Me and Gav being pushed from behind and taking the old timers in front of us a few seats down with us..My bollocks still hurt from that!!

Tns..Getting proper pissed in Cardiff and not really remembering the game or getting home :)
