Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy has been charged with rape.

Cheshire Police said the 27-year-old defender had been charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

The charges relate to three complainants over the age of 16 and are alleged to have taken place between October 2020 and August this year.

Mendy, of Prestbury, has been remanded in custody ahead of his appearance at Magistrates' Court on Friday.

I believe we should hold judgement on the allegations until they are proven in a court of law

Remember that there are a lot of people out there who will accuse someone of something if it means the possibilty of making a few quid

Benjamin Mendy has reportedly been having a meltdown in prison after mistakenly believing he was going to be housed on a VIP wing.

The Manchester City star has been charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.


Mendy is currently on remand in HMP Altcourse following his appearance in Chester Magistrates’ court on Friday.

The 27-year-old was said to be shocked that he would not be allowed home as he was instead transported to the Category B jail in Liverpool.

I honestly don’t believe that newspaper report about a VIP wing.  They can write what they like about him and get away with it now.
