He is down to fourth choice centre back but the defence seemed noticeably tighter after he came on at weekend. It seems to me that if Vinny isn't playing then Demi needs to be in to lead the defence. At the moment Otamendi and Mangala together isn't working. Okay, they haven't had a great deal of time together but the time they have had together has seen us concede three of four goals conceded this season. I'm sure given time they can work well together in the Prem but at the moment it looks like they need the Prem experience of Vinny or Demi to guide them.

didn't they used to be the CB pairing at Porto (IIRC that someone said earlier?) so I'm sure that was the thinking behind the pairing...

However you're right. Ota seems the more composed out of him and Mangala, tasty in the tackle too.
