600 Prem apperarances today. To put that in perspective there's only been 250 Prem games at the Etihad. He made his debut for Villa in 1998, a full five years before we moved grounds. That seems a long time ago now. Hats off to Gareth, still playing at the top level after all these years. And a few medals from his time at City too!!

He was a good soldier for City. His lack of real pace let him down sometimes but he always gave 100% and he covered a lot of ground across the 90 minutes. I can remember a few games when he was imperious for us in midfield. A model pro and 600 games is a fine achievement.

A likable fella as well. He was one player who tuned into City's gallows humour. In an interview sometime after THAT Premiership winning game against QPR he admitted to some dark thoughts when we were still 1-2 down in the dying minutes. At one point a helicopter flew low over the Etihad and Gareth said he thought to himself "Oh no - they're flying the trophy up to Sunderland to give to Utd! How are we going to live this down?" No worries on that score Gareth!
