What a fantastic player he has been for us. A true great of the club. Not as long as some others. But his quality and contribution has been immense. With his recent injury record, letting him go might prove wise. But it is a gamble to let such a player go. It seems that he would not have signed any new contract though so maybe it was the only option with only a year left.

Sunday 2pm is not a great time to start the season. It is normally quite a subdued atmosphere.

Possession stats were ok for us but if you believe in XG stats's I think Arsenals were 2.77 and ours was 0.77 which for me reflects the game.

A lot went against us today. Stats wise it wasn't that bad. But there is also no hiding that there were serious deficiencies at the back and in the second half, we were totally toothless. I'm not going to get too concerned with the Community Shield. But next week we need to start with three points at home to Bournemouth. There's work to be done this week to resolve as many of the issues as possible.
